Cohen seemed pissed...or upset. Haunt held out his hands in front of him. "Where are you going anyway?" He didn't want to upset her more, but he wasn't bothered, Cohen was tough, she could take basically anything anyone dished out on her.
Daniel glanced up from her face, and saw a table of candy. "Ooh, cookies."

"Cookies?" Selene asked, glancing around. "That's candy..." She raised an eyebrow. Selene had no idea why he was stopping her, there was candy, and other girls around. "I was planning on destroying the dress." Anyway, she was sure he didn't really want her around, maybe she'd steal some of his ciggerettes and see if nicotine made her feel any better.

"Destroy the dress? But you could ship it over to a third world country and clothe all the needy kids with all the fluffy fabric." He smirked, but then stopped smiling. "Look, if you wanna seriously get outta here, we can go find somewhere to hang." She really did seem distressed.

Selene sighed in relief. "There's too many people here." She replied, even though there were only a few. She was feeling out of place in this dress, and it was clear everyone knew who she was. "Where do you suggest?" Already slipping past him and out the cafeteria door. They had both shown up for the party, they wouldn't get in trouble for not coming now.

Sorrel nodded at the question. Yes. Like the headmistress. Like the unbelievebly talented lady standing there in her office, contemplating how she could have had such a let-down for a daughter. Contemplating how she couldn't have taught her some kind of magic. Some kind of trick. Some sort of potions-making, herbal healing, natural remedies. Thinking about how she had a failure for a daughter and how everybody would know it soon enough. sorrel shook her head to the Ice Queen.
"She is my mother." Sorrel completely avoided the girl's eyes, looked everywhere but. The snack table. The dance floor. Her shoes. Anything to keep herself away from those eyes, those daunting eyes that would know soon enough that she was powerless. Useless.

Hazel raised her eyebrows in surprise. She didn't know that Ms. Achlys was even married, not to mention had a daughter. "Your mom?" Hazel finally spoke. "No one ever told me that Ms. Achlys had a daughter." That must have sounded terrible. That your own mother had never mentioned you. That wasn't the issue, of course. Helena had just always been too busy running a school.
Hazel stood up. "Come on, let's dance." She had always loved dancing. And the Hera Witch thought that it might loosen the girl up a little. She looked almost unhappy beside the drinks table.

"I don't mind." Haunt went over and grabbed a plateful of sweets and cookies, and also a couple of glasses of punch. Just in case they got hungry, which he was. "The library should be pretty quiet." Even the librarian came out to celebrate. He glanced at Cohen. Why was she feeling so out of place? Everyone else was all decked out. Hazel Mackenzie looked like she was at a coronation, and that other girl looked like she was a dress up party. It was Hallowee after all.

Sorrel wasn't hurt by it, but she'd expected it. After all, who advertised their children in a school? It was strange to do something so personal, especially in a business world. When preposed to dance, her eyes widened. She didn't dance well. She'd never taken dance lessons, never attended dances, never danced. She was always interested in ballet, but couldn't quite get up the nerve to try. "Oh, I'm a horrible dancer." She laughed sheepishly, looking to the side and pushing up at her hair self-consiously. Did she really want to make a fool of herself now?

Blaise glanced at Hazel as she danced, then turned his attention back to Kathleen. "It's been all right. Nothing eventful, so it's getting kind of boring. But the teachers always mix things up. It's hard for things to stay dull forever in a school like this one."

She had been feeling quite confident until she noticed that Blaine recognized her. Then Haunt did. Now she just felt stupid in a dress and mask. Selene was hoping that the librarian would stay at the party a while letting her get away from most of the people here. Haunt didn't count, since he was... Quiet. He was alot like her, an outcast because of who she was. Nodding slightly, she headed out the door, glancing back to make sure that Daniel was following.

Haunt cast one last look around the cafeteria. The few people dancing, and the few others standing around doing nothing in particular. Holding the glasses and plate high so that he wouldn't knock it against anyone or anything, Haunt followed Cohen out of the cafeteria. Poor girl, he thought that she would have a harder shell than this. But it was a new school after all; a new environment and unfamiliar, judging faces.

"I see." Kathleen nodded. It seemed that she was experiencing almost the same thing as Blaise's. But what he said was true. It was teachers who always mixed things up. "I guess nothing really special happening lately, just this Halloween party."
